Mexican weddings, family, and fashion.

One of the things I missed most while away from Mexico was my family. Mexican families are like close-knit communities, and the affection found within this core nurtures the soul and inspires. And what can be said when we're celebrating love? The colors and joy that characterize us so well explode.

Undoubtedly, the trend of Mexican-style weddings is at its peak. So here, I share my recent experience as a fashion designer at Caro Guevara's wedding and thank her for letting me be part of such a special event. My involvement began with designing the wedding dress, then moved on to the bridesmaids, the bride's mother, and the mother-in-law. Caro was very clear that she wanted touches of folklore but didn't want it to look like she and her family were wearing costumes. I was immediately drawn to the project; the Mexican-chic concept was clear, and for someone like me with fashion training and experience in Mexico and France, no style is more consistent.

For the wedding dress, folklore was blended with haute couture techniques and the selection of fine fabrics. The embroidery design was inspired by Oaxacan art flowers but with more delicate stitches and sizes, as well as modern hues. A total of 238 flowers were hand-embroidered onto organza, to then be applied to the dress. The idea was to concentrate the embellishments on the upper part of the bodice, constructed from Swiss satin, and then ethereal fade over the Italian tulle of the skirt and veil. This is how joy and elegance were imprinted on this garment and perfectly combined with Caro's positive personality.

With the bridesmaids, we created a kind of neo-Adelitas with trendy crop tops in ivory Spanish crepe, draped at the front and back. The Mexican touch on the upper part was subtly given with a hand-embroidered pin featuring the same flowers and colors as the bride. The electric blue skirt was made of satin, aiming for a volume reminiscent of our culture's typical style, but modernized by front and back pleats that flattered the girls' figures. All pieces were designed to be reusable; the top can look perfect with any formal or informal bottom, the floral detail can be added to a denim jacket or blazer, and the "maxi-skirt" with a different colored top creates a new look effortlessly—something perfect for women who, yes, love folklore, but are also current and versatile.

The bride's mother, Mary Carmen, was a great inspiration—a superwoman; besides being a mother, a professional in her work, and always, always with a big smile, undoubtedly a great family leader. Her look was a youthful duck-tail skirt in blue chiffon to create a vaporous effect, and for the top, a very "in" silk top in Mexican pink with contrasting colored petal applications arranged to simulate Mexican art. Again, a mix of fashion, folklore, joy, and elegance.

And last but not least, we created a look for María Elena, the mother of the proud groom, who was dressed in an elegant mariachi suit. In this case, we opted for a gray wrap dress in taffeta, with accents provided by red accessories; ideal for a lady of great bearing and aesthetic.

These were the designs, and in the photos, you can see all the beauty projected by a Mexican family proud of their roots yet modern and open to international trends as well. Mexico today is not just folklore; it is countless hardworking people, people who travel, who learn, who contribute, who do not exclude; and in that way, it speaks to the world with its traditions, yes, but also with a contemporary vision of design, good taste, and professionalism.
