Dos and don'ts for your graduation dress.

Is your graduation party just around the corner and you still haven't chosen the ideal dress? Here are five tips on what to do and what to avoid:

1. Stick to the "dress code." Most graduations in Mexico are evening galas, which means avoiding short dresses. However, sometimes there are only diploma ceremonies, and these are usually semi-formal. In this case, long dresses are definitely out of place; a mini dress or something with tailored touches can be a great option.

2. Be careful with trendy colors. Indeed, a color often becomes fashionable, and we sometimes see it repeated too much at graduations. If you're going for the star color of the season, try wearing it in unexpected textures, mixed with other colors, or in truly unique silhouettes to avoid looking like just another guest. A very functional tip is to survey your classmates about the color they plan to wear, so you can avoid repeating styles. Constant colors at graduations are variations of red, black, gold, and silver. Similarly, if you want to go this route, combine the color with original materials or silhouettes.

3. Choose unique and innovative options. Buying your graduation dress at a department store might be more accessible, but you run a high risk of someone else wearing the same dress. Visit boutiques with unique dresses or, better yet, choose a designer to create the ideal piece for you.

4. Follow trends that suit you. If hip pleats are very fashionable but your hips are already wide, perhaps you should choose a different trendy detail. A good tip is to follow the latest red carpets, looking at celebrity looks that you identify with in terms of style and body type, checking what trends they are adopting and what looks best on them.

5. Don't hold back! Graduations typically happen in middle school, high school, and college. This is your chance to wear something spectacular and original that is outside of a wedding dress. This is your opportunity to attend a gala at an age that still allows you to wear that crazy color, that unusual fabric, that daring neckline, that tight cut, that dress with sneakers—anything different will be well justified by your age.

Well, it goes without saying, enjoy it to the fullest, look unique, because you are unique!
