Love is love! Egalitarian weddings and personalized design.

Recently, I had the pleasure of delivering a pair of very special wedding looks for Danya and Caro. They are a couple that, I believe, now more than ever, inspires us to think about two very important things: being unique and authentic.

This type of wedding, referred to as egalitarian, gay, or same-sex; is still very new in Mexico, and although normally no distinction should be made; helping to break certain stigmas deserves special mention.

An article on the topic from bodas.com.mx states: "According to INEGI data, in 2018, 3,359 same-sex marriages were registered (44.3% between men and 55.7% between women). The number is still low, as it does not even represent 1% of the total marriages celebrated annually. However, to date, more than 15 thousand same-sex couples have already gone through one of the Civil Registry offices anywhere in the Republic." Incredible, almost only one in five of these couples dares to celebrate their love and union freely and in their own way.

I didn't really realize all this when the beautiful Frida Sahaguns, who has always supported me, brought Danya and Caro to my door. I simply fell in love with the project because they wanted something different and special; they were looking for what I love to do most: personalized and unique designs.

Caro opted for a pearl kimono-style dress with transparency to wear over an ivory crepe jumpsuit. We had made this design before in pink, but the feeling was completely different with the change of color. We made some adaptations to the jumpsuit to make the silhouette more comfortable for Caro and contrasted the belt material more to highlight her waist. The result: a feminine yet fresh, light, contemporary, and modern bride. And that's how Caro comes across when you meet her; she has a very unique personality, and I've become her fan because she's a writer.

For Danya, we blended several pieces from her own universe. An elegant yet modern dandy style, with a vintage touch in the cut of the vest and an adaptation to carry her pocket watch (a beautiful antique piece gifted by her girlfriend and with a personalized inscription). We also added suspenders in colors that matched her blue Oxford shoes and highlighted, in addition to her originality and joy, the color of her eyes. The final touch was a blue ascot that emphasized the strength of this bride. We talked about garments that would represent something strict, but Danya is relaxed, and we achieved that touch with the materials. A soft, stretchy knit crepe for the suit, and underneath a 100% cotton t-shirt with short, draped sleeves.

The surprise element that united them both was that each had strands of pearls hanging from the back neckline.

These outfits were definitely unique, different, and I was very happy to hear that they felt comfortable and pleased in them.

Just like their looks, I also perceived how their story was full of details: an extraordinary ring delivery, trips and experiences that make them special. I had the good fortune to follow moments of their wedding online – jazz music, a terrace that allowed you to escape, all things that belonged to them in a very authentic way. How inspiring that in an increasingly individualistic world, two people not only dare to commit and create a life together, but also do so by breaking conventions, being truly themselves and expressing their love freely.

I take this beautiful experience to say to same-sex couples, to unconventional couples, to typical couples who are afraid of being too normal, to people whose lives are not in a couple: it's not about following a pre-set path, it's about doing it your way and falling in love with your unique and authentic personality.

Because love is felt, not defined, or as the saying goes: "Love is love."
